So you’ve got a Facebook fan page. Awesome! But that long, number-laden URL is awfully ugly. Wouldn’t it be nice to have it be http://www.facebook.com/YourPageName? Let me teach you how to do it!
First, there’s a few housekeeping things that need to be done:
- You have to be an admin of the page (which, if you made it, you already are!).
- You need to know what you want to name it. This may seem like a no brainer, but once you set this URL, you can never change it. Typo? Looks like you’ll need to start a whole ‘nother page and beg your fans to like the new page. Now we don’t want that, now do we?
Ok now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get down to business!
Go to http://www.facebook.com/username. You should get a page that looks similar to this, only with your page(s) in the drop down menu.
Select the page you’re working with from the drop down menu. In this case, I’m setting the URL for my parent’s business, Rainbow Snoball. Once you do that, you’ll be prompted to select the name you’d like to appear in the URL.
I, logically, chose RainbowSnoball for the URL. You pretty much want to stick to your page name. If it’s crazy long, go ahead and pick something easy to remember and type in. Once you do, click “Check Availability”. Then, this little guy will pop up, warning you that you need to be really sure, and that you can’t steal other peoples names and such. But you’re a nice guy and wouldn’t be doing that, now would you?
If you’re happy with the URL that you’ve picked, click confirm. Then …
You’ve done it! Now instead of that ugly ol’ URL, I can put this neat and tidy one on my business cards and such. Nice work, comrade.
