Top Ten Ways to Spruce Up Your Home {Guest Post}

We all want a new look sometimes and our homes are no different. Sometimes you have to change things up to keep your home looking fresh and at its best. Here’s a list of 10 simple ways to spruce up your home:

1) Move the furniture around– this is the quickest, easiest way to give your room a new look… and it’s absolutely free. Just place the furniture in a different position and voila- it’s like a new room.

2) Paint– this is going to give to you the biggest effect, a fresh coat of paint can work wonders to give your room a whole new look. And even just an accent wall can make a huge difference.

3) Change out window treatments– hanging new window treatments, whether it’s blinds, curtains, or a valance will give your window {and the whole room} a completely different feel.

4) Hang a mirror, art, or picture frames– a mirror is great for opening up a room and making it feel bigger. A large piece of art can finish off a room and picture frames can be grouped together or by themselves to show off your favorite pictures.

5) Replace faucet fixtures– in a kitchen or bathroom something as small as changing out the fixtures can still make a big impact. In the bathroom you can also change accessories like your shower curtain, toothbrush holder, soap dispenser, etc.

6) Put down an area rug– whether it’s small or large an area rug can help ground a room and make it feel warmer and cozier. And don’t forget about the entrance to your home also- a welcome mat is a great first impression.

7) Add a centerpiece– a vase of freshly cut flowers can be an instant pick-me-up in any room. A centerpiece for your dining room table can also be candles or fresh fruit, also consider changing out placemats, napkin rings, etc.

8) Freshen up the air– the smell in your home is either going to invite people in or make them want to turn and run. Keep it smelling fresh by using candles or air fresheners.

9) Organize– this may seem obvious but de-clutter by tossing out old papers and other unused items, and keep things organized by using great looking bins and baskets {these can even be found at the dollar store}.

10) Curb Appeal– after you do the inside of your home, don’t forget about the outside… it’s the first thing people see when they visit. Several ways to add curb appeal are to plant a flower garden &/or trees, add a flag, put up a birdhouse, use landscape rocks, give your porch or front door a fresh coat of stain or paint, change out your address numbers, or add a lighted walkway.
