I know it’s a hot topic. Vaccines are a touchy subject for some parents, and rest assured I am NOT here to tell you to vaccinate or not vaccinate your kids. This post is one point of view, and it’s okay to disagree.
Currently, the Center for Disease Control is touring the nation, seeking the input of parents on whether or not infants under two should be immunized against meningitis. The stats of this disease are staggering — one out of 16 children who contract it will not survive. Among survivors, one in five will suffer seizures, blindness, amputation, paralysis or learning disabilities.
There’s a fact that I wasn’t aware of until reading more about the Meningitis Angels — There are more deaths from meningococcal disease each year than from pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella and rotavirus disease. These are all infections that we currently vaccinate against.
You can visit Protect Infants Now to get more information and to sign the petition in favor of vaccinating those under 2 against meningitis.
How do you feel about vaccines? Do you vaccinate?
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central and Meningitis Angels. This campaign was made possible in part through support provided by Novartis Vaccines. A small donation to a charity of my choice was made in my name from Mom Central as a thank-you for participating. All opinions in this posting are 100% my own.
