Y’know, a kid can only eat so many granola bars before they lose their mind.
Emma told me that she was tired of her usual “gorilla bar”, and that she wanted to take something different. School has been in session for a while now, so I don’t blame her for being tired of the same ol’ same ol’. So we set out on a shopping trip to pick up some of our healthy pantry staples and to see what else we could find for her to take to school.
We headed in to Walmart, and the produce area was our first stop. We go through Gala apples like nobody’s business in this house, so we picked up a few of those. I have previously sent sliced apples in Emma’s backpack, but she complains that she doesn’t like how they brown. Kids, I tell ya.
We loaded up a big bag full of apples and continued on. My little dip-aholics are baby carrot fans, through and through. Give them a baggie full of baby carrots and a little cup of dip and they’re set! We grabbed some of these as well.
Then we turned in to the fruit and juice aisle, and saw these new Del Monte Fruit Cups — and I instantly noticed that they weren’t your usual fruit cups. They were flavored!
Emma was totally on board, and even thought that it would be SO COOL to take a spoon to school (haha!). So we bought one of each variety.

I sent Emma to school this morning with a Diced Apples and Pears in Extra Light Syrup with Caramel Flavor fruit cup! She was tickled to have a new snack, and I was happy that it wasn’t junk food! These have only 60 calories per serving, are gluten free, and they do not include high fructose corn syrup!
Our new snack mission was a success! My husband even snagged one of the fruit cups out of the fridge, thinking it was a normal fruit cup. Once he opened it and took the first bite, his eyes got wide and he said, “Ooh, these are good!”
What are your kids’ favorite healthy snack?
