Growing up, my dad’s side of the family always held their Christmas gathering about a week after the actual holiday. That way, we could all have our celebrations with our families, and once the chaos died down, we’d all get together for one final party. It’s one of my fondest memories from growing up — after the hoopla of Christmas, knowing that I had one more party (…and let’s be real — more presents) waiting for me!
I’m always at a loss as to what I should bring to get togethers — the host is usually coy, and always says “Oh just bring yourselves! Your presence is your present!”, but we all know that we would feel guilty showing up totally empty handed. The past few weeks, we’ve had a revolving door of guests at our house. My mom came for a surprise visit, then my sister in law and mother and law, as well as my husbands grandparents are currently in town. Wow!
We love playing host, and we are so happy to see them all. I’ve told you guys before how I’m not a stellar cook. I can follow a recipe, but I’m no Rachael Ray or Pioneer Woman. So, when I wanted to have a little treat for our family shindig, I decided to give my local Baskin Robbins a call and ordered one of their Holiday Ice Cream Cakes!
I mean, are you kidding me? How adorable are these?! My kids lobbied hard for the Santa, but since it was a post-Christmas party, I wanted to stick to a winter-esque cake. I went with the elf! My Baskin Robbins needed me to give them 24 hours notice, so we headed to the store the day after placing our order.
The second we picked him up, I knew he’d be a hit! Want to know what’s awesome? You get to pick whatever flavor of ice cream you want! I chose Old Fashioned Butter Pecan Ice Cream for the center of our elf! The ice cream you choose doesn’t affect the appearance of the cake, because they “ice” it with soft serve. Uhm, amazing.
I also wanted to get each of my kids their own little treat. Baskin Robbins has these adorable individual snowmen and snow woman ice cream novelties! Look!
The snowmen and woman were made with vanilla ice cream and had frosted details. The kids went absolutely nuts over them! I may or may not have snuck a bite. I can attest that snowmen are delicious. The whole family loved the elf, and they all doubly loved the delish butter pecan ice cream and white cake! Holiday party = success!
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Baskin-Robbins. I received a gift card to facilitate my shopping experience and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
