Long time no blog! I kind of took a few days off. Andrew was out of town on business, so it was a little crazy here this week. But I’ve been busy! Not only did our Diet Bet kick off (the pot is at $520! Whoa!), but I’m also in a miles competition with a handful of people. We all pitched in $5, and the person who runs the most miles in February gets a big chunk of it, and second and third take little consolation prizes. Since Andrew wasn’t here to hang out with the kids while I ran, I was pretty much restricted to walks with Micah on his bike, one mile at a time. We did about 3 miles a day, though, and he even biked a 14 minute mile once! That’s pretty impressive fora 3 year old on a little bike!
He’s really done such a great job! He reminds me now before each nap time, or before bed: “Mom, we’re gonna go for a walk when we wake up!” It makes me so happy to see my kids having fun being active. It is so important to me to make sure that they aren’t faced with being overweight kids. I had a rough time in elementary and middle school, and I want them to enjoy their young, carefree days instead of spend them being self conscious. Maisy, of course, comes along on our walks, but she gets to lounge in her stroller. Lazy bones ;).
So Andrew came home on Friday night, and boy were we ready for him to get here! Especially now that he works from home (when not traveling, obviously), it’s so weird to not have him here! I impulsively bought a cookie cake pan and cookie dough to make him a cookie cake. I should’ve known that it was a trap. I ate way, way too much of it. But it was fun to make and I think he enjoyed seeing a welcome home surprise :).
I am certainly not a master cookie cake decorator, I know that much! It was yummy, but like I said, I shouldn’t have eaten as much as I did. So the next day, I decided I was going to run them off. I was itching to run anyway, since I hadn’t gone out all week, so I mapped out a 4.81 mile run. I hadn’t gone that far in a very long time, and I would have Maisy in the jogger, which always makes it harder. But you know what? I did it!
I wanted to finish it in one hour, but I almost made it! Not too bad for my first run in a week or so! The wind was annoying at first, but it got better as I moved into neighborhoods. I felt pretty good about it overall! I got home, showered, and Andrew said he wanted to go to Walmart. We went, and ended up buying a grill! I’m so excited! It’s always so hot in the summer time, and we rarely grill because it’s like standing in a sauna in the desert (yuck!), so hopefully we can get some good use out of it before the major heat hits the Phoenix area. We picked up steaks to eat for dinner, and I made sure mine was really lean. I found a 8 ounce New York Strip, and it. was. glorious.
Don’t you guys love my fancy dinnerware? ;) I hadn’t eaten 8 ounces of protein in one sitting in what feels like years! I was so full, I didn’t even eat the broccoli I had planned to eat along with it!
So this week, I want to start the Hal Higdon 10k training program. We’ll see how it goes. I don’t know if I will be able to get away from the house a lot, but I’m going to try!
