Growing up as a girl I had tons of Barbie® dolls and would get together with friends and we would create huge cities out of our entire basements for ourdolls to live in. Well now Barbie® and Mega Bloks® and have come out with Mega Bloks® Barbie® Build ‘n Style sets. This combines a great love of building blocks and Barbie® dolls that a ton of girls (and boys!) can really enjoy. We were excited to be able to review Mega Bloks® Barbie® Build ‘n Style Pet Shop. My daughter, who is almost 4, was so excited when she saw the box. It is geared toward kids 4+ and while she can help with snapping them together she understandably needed help with assembling it.

When we first opened the box there were quite a few small bags with all the parts in it. We opened the box and sifted through them so I could check out the pieces first and then we started building. I followed the directions it came with and it took about 10-15 minutes, including sticker placement, to assemble with my daughter’s help. One of the features I noticed is that the box showed a couple of different placements so you can use your own creativity as well and come up with your own design for the pet shop.

Now this was my daughter’s first building block style toy so I was curious how she would do with it and if it would have lasting power. Aydia is currently in a wheelchair following a surgery and her boredom comes quickly these days but I’m happy to report that this is a toy that she’ll play with for quite a while making up her own story lines with the Mega Bloks® Barbie® and the animals.

It’s also helpful that it’s so small compared to Standard Barbie® dolls. She loves Barbie® dolls and wants to be able to play with them but with her limited range of motion and reach she gets frustrated with her larger Barbie® house since she can’t quite reach it all. With this being so compact she was able to access all of it and move it around easily. She rearranged a few of the items but has stuck pretty close to the design. It’s entertaining her enough that I’m thinking of picking up one of the other Mega Blok® Barbie® Build ‘n Style sets for her birthday at the end of the month. Keep in mind that this is a toy that has very small parts that are easily lost so following their guideline of 4+ seems very appropriate.
