Creamy Brown Sugar Spread with SPLENDA: Making #SweetSwaps

Splenda Sweet Swaps

This post is part of the SPLENDA® 365 SWEET SWAPS ™ blogger program by McNeil Nutritionals, LLC. and The Motherhood, who sent me products and compensated me for my time. Opinions, experiences and photos shared here are my own, and I hope you enjoy them. Y'all. I just made the best flippin' cream cheese dip I've ever had in my life. It was super easy and I even lightened it up a little! Lately, I've been ditching sugar and using SPLENDA no calorie sweetener, and I've been enjoying my favorite stuff with a little less guilt! This week has been insane -- Emma's 7th birthday (OMG) was on Sunday, so it's pretty much been a week of non-stop food. Birthday dinners, ice cream cake, and cookie cake have all gone down so far, and it's only Wednesday. Tonight's cookie cake was my breaking point. I just FEEL so gross from all of the indulgent meals I've been eating, so I decided to whip up something that still felt like a major cheat, but with SPLENDA, I was able to cut some calories from … [Read more...]

Making #SweetSwaps with Splenda! #ad

Sweet Swaps

Part of living a calorie-conscious diet means making changes in the things you eat -- but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice the foods you love. You just have to be smarter than the food! I've spent the past year and a half finding little tricks to eating right that make a big difference over time. It might not seem like a big deal to swap your sugar with a no-calorie sweetener, but each day adds up to a week, that adds up to a month, which rolls into a year. Little swaps can (and do!) make an impact! For me, things like swapping diet soda for water (so hard!), fried foods for baked options, and restaurant cooking for at-home meal prep solutions. I definitely am an advocate of taking small steps that add up to big movements -- overwhelming yourself with a million new "rules" or changes will probably just result in frustration when you inevitably fail. Did you know? Experts recommend that women consume no more than 6 tsp. of added sugar daily, but the average American … [Read more...]

I’m running in the Skirt Chaser 5k in Tempe! Join me!

Skirt Chaser 5K Tempe

Can I tell y’all what I’m super pumped about? I am so excited for a fun, themed run. My past two races have been serious, focused, and challenging 13.1 miles. This Saturday, I’m running in the Skirt Chaser 5k in Tempe! It’s my second year running in the Skirt Chaser 5k, and I’m so thrilled to be back! It’s very unique in that there are two start times, based on gender. Following the rules of etiquette, ladies start first, and then the men follow three minutes later – hence the name “Skirt Chaser”. The race is hosted by Skirt Sports (which I LOVE, by the way – super huge fan of their stuff!), and it’s so neat to see a ton of ladies kicking asphalt in running skirts! Here I am at last year’s Skirt Chaser (whoa, blonde hair flashback!): The best part, to me, is that with an upgraded registration, you score a Skirt Sports running skirt! With the dreadfully hot summer up ahead, my running leggings are going to be retired, and I’m going to get a lot … [Read more...]

Namaste, y’all! Get one free month of MyYogaWorks.com! #ad #MC

MyYogaWorks.com

I will be totally honest. As I write this, I am beyond stressed out. I just tore my house apart looking for some important documents that I should have stashed away, but I can't find them. Right now, I need to chill. And here's what's awesome -- I just chilled out in under 6 minutes, in my own bed, and it was the best thing I could have done for myself tonight. I've been checking out MyYogaWorks.com, an online yoga video site, and I'm pretty impressed! I signed up and told them the main areas I'd like to work on, like my core, balance, sun salutations, and calming effects. I'm totally a yoga beginner (I can't even touch my toes!), so it's nice that they have their videos separated so you can easily find one that will suit your needs. MyYogaWorks offers 500 online yoga classes ranging in length from 5 to 90 minutes. They even offer specialty classes like pre & post natal yoga, meditation and more. Since I can access it from my laptop, phone, or tablet, I can have a yoga … [Read more...]

Weigh in Wednesday: Losing Weight Twice Sucks + I’m Running 13.1 Miles on Sunday!

Mean Girls Workout Tank

Just a little PSA for any of you who are thinking about slacking off and letting yourself go. When you gain back weight that you've already busted your ass to lose, the process is twice as hard, twice as emotionally trying, and twice as sucky. With that out of the way, I think I can say that I've had an okay week! On Monday, my office started a weight loss challenge, and I signed up. There's some stiff competition, and I might not have a chance at winning, but I'm doing my damnedest to hold my own. I've only had a handful of Diet Dr. Peppers this week, too! I've been twiddling my thumbs with excitement and nerves (okay mostly nerves), because this Sunday is the PF Changs Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon! My second half! Again, I always feel like I could have trained better, and I know I could have, so I'm apprehensive about how I will do during this race. I'm going to stick with the 3:00 pace setter and hope for the best. I ran on Sunday, and kept a good pace to put me at the finish … [Read more...]

Weigh in Wednesday: 2014 Edition

Freckleberry Fit

HAPPY NEW YEAR, FRECKLEBERRIES! I would love to tell you that I got gussied up and danced the night away, but I'm a fuddy duddy who enjoyed her evening on the couch with her husband and kids watching a Cops marathon. (Funny tidbit: Micah woke up in the middle of the night and asked me if all the bad guys got arrested. Ha!) I hope you guys had a great New Year's Eve. Is anyone else feeling really excited about the fresh start? I am big on charting, tracking, and following analytics and stuff, so something about a new year with no data is encouraging to me. I don't have any bad juju going into this year when it comes to my weight, so I'm going to try and bottle that up and use it! Time to be transparent. I've found that the only way to keep myself accountable is to blog about my food, exercise, and current weight. I kicked a lot of ass on Nutrisystem, and I think it was due in part to the fact that I was required by contract to blog weekly. Knowing that I had to write about my week … [Read more...]

New LIFE Resolution #FightFatTalk

FightFatTalk

This content is sponsored by Special K, but all opinions are my own. It's New Year's eve! In a few hours, the big glittery ball is going to drop, and bajillions of people will kiss in Times Square. The confetti will settle, and noisemakers will be cast by the wayside. The next morning, people will go to their calendars (do people still use real paper calendars anymore? I do!) and turn the page from December 2013 to January 2014. There's something really clean, crisp, and fresh about January. Of course, you have the chance to make a change any day of the year, but there's something freeing about a new calendar year, right? Here's the trick to sticking with your New Year's resolution to lose weight: Don't do it for anyone else. When you're the one waking up at 4:00 AM to work out, while the whole house is sleeping. You are only going to be able to rely on YOU. A support system is key, but the person making healthy choices every day wont be your kids, it wont be your spouse, … [Read more...]

Learning to Like My Body and #FightFatTalk

#FightFatTalk | Freckleberry Fit

It's funny, you know, how those magazines and weight loss reality shows paint the most beautiful picture of how a person should look after they lose a substantial amount of weight. You see those before and after photos, and you just know that if you buckle down and overhaul your entire life, that you'll get those results. You'll have a slim, flat stomach and you will be SO HAPPY! Look at her smile! It's so white and pearly and wide! She worked hard and she EARNED these results. And then, you lose a substantial amount of weight. Just like that girl on the Half My Size issue of the checkout line magazines. But you don't look like that. You kind of resemble it, but it's just ... not what you expected. You're a little deflated, and you certainly aren't going to be jogging in a sports bra and shorts any time soon. I'm living this right now. And let me tell you, it is one serious mind freak. I lost 50 pounds, but my body isn't slender and taut. I can fake it, and I can wear one of … [Read more...]

That Time I Ran A Half Marathon And Didn’t Die

So proud of myself!

Well. I'm three days past race day, and I am slowly starting to not limp a little when I get out of my office chair at work, so I think it's time I recap my run, eh? On Friday night, my sister, Kelsey, flew in to the Phoenix airport from San Antonio to run the race with me. We wanted to both run our first half marathon together, so she flew out here for the occasion. She's been a runner for some time, and has always been athletic (soccer, volleyball, kickball...the list goes on! She was playing sports while I did musical theatre growing up!), but she has been having really weird issues with her shins and calves lately. She's fallen three or four times while running, and described the falls by saying "my legs just quit working." So while she felt prepared, she was nervous. I, however, felt under prepared and nervous. I knew that I could finish -- I didn't doubt my physical ability to travel 13.1 miles, but I knew that I wouldn't be finishing at an impressive time. Kels and I … [Read more...]
