It’s Challenge Time. #NoSodaSummer

#NoSodaSummer

It's something that I've been trying to quit for a really, really long time. Last fall, I got into a really great swing and went soda-free. I didn't really miss it, and I would have it on occasion when we went out to eat. Otherwise, it was water for me! I felt great, and I know that I was just healthier then, you know? Around Christmas time (oh y'know, nearly 6 months ago), I got back into the soda habit, and I am fully addicted again. It's so hard for me to say no to a fizzy fountain drink! Diet Dr. Pepper is my BFF, and I could drink it all day long if I let myself. So bad for me. But then I started reading up on the junk they stick in soda. So that's pretty bad, yeah. But then just yesterday, I read an article that stated that diet soda is as bad for your teeth as methamphetamine or crack cocaine. HOLD UP, Y'ALL. Those who drink large amounts of diet soda for long periods of time often experience tooth erosion, rotting, decay and other types of oral damage – in many … [Read more...]

Weigh In Wednesday Week 43: Back on the Wagon

Weight Watchers App Screenshot

So if you read my post on Monday, you know that I've been having a rough go of it. There's nothing worse than being in a rut, and I've finally decided to pull myself out of it. And it. feels. awesome. Since Monday, I've tracked every bite of food that's gone into my mouth -- yes, even the two frozen margaritas I had on Tuesday. They were even more costly than my two shredded chicken soft tacos (which were so delish, by the way). It makes me feel safe knowing that even if I dip into my weekly points, I know exactly what I have left to 'spend'. If you're not tracking your food yet, do it! You will shock yourself! I don't have a whole lot to say tonight, because I pretty much spilled my guts on Monday, but I did take this screenshot today from my Weight Watchers app that I thought was pretty neat. I mean, yeah, it's kind of depressing to see that I've basically done nothing productive in over a month, but I told you I was in a funk! At any rate, it did help me a little to see … [Read more...]

I think Weight Watchers is trying to tell me something.

Freckleberry Fit Weight Watchers

It's no secret that I've been so insanely busy, and I've missed a lot of weekly weigh ins. A lot of it is because once I'm done with my "real" job, I am ready to turn off the computer and hang with my kids -- which is awesome! Summer is coming up and we bought a new pool for the backyard to tide us over until we (hopefully) put in an in-ground pool over the winter. The kids are growing gills, and I've loved every second of lounging in a floaty-thing, sipping either a Diet Dr. Pepper or some kind of mixed drink. This scenario is glorious, and it's really, truly, been a joy to just LIVE. But I've become entirely too sedentary over the past month. Yes, MONTH. I am laying it all out on the table. 100% of it. I haven't run since the Boston Marathon, on April 15. I ran a mile with my kids that day, but haven't laced up since. Nothing. Nada. And for the first week, it was just purely a scheduling issue. Andrew was travelling a lot, so I couldn't very well just leave the kids alone at … [Read more...]

Weigh In Wednesday Week 39: I’m baaaack! and I have NEWS!

Women's Running Half Marathon Scottsdale

I know you couldn't bear for me to be away for yet another week, right? ;) Well! I took a little breather, and am doing my best to make sure that I have enough hours in the day to work, be with my family, be a mom and wife, and also actually have time to WORK OUT so I can then BLOG about it! People tell me all the time, "I don't know how you do it!" Neither do I, folks. Neither. do. I. I've enjoyed being able to just live for the past three weeks, and though I was still around and posting for previous obligations, it was good to fall asleep when I wanted to, not after I was done working. Since I can't very well fit in three week's worth of updates in one post, I'm going to just kind of throw things at you, smorgasbord style. We went to Texas! I took full advantage of the new running views and went out for a quick run. We were only there for about 36 hours (really!), so I just did a quick 2 miles. Oh, and when I say quick, I kind of mean it: Hey-oh! I know that … [Read more...]

Weigh In Wednesday Week 36: What is with the self-sabotage?!

Freckleberry Fit

Alright, dudes. This week started off really awesome. I was on track, eating well, really clean, and it was like the heavens were singing. I was pretty bummed out about the .2 pound gain, and so I was ready to buckle down and get these 12.4 pounds DONE, y'know? I was shredding, running, doing my thing. Then Sunday came. It started with Robin's Eggs. and it kept going. and going. and going. I didn't even track a lot of it because I was either so ashamed of the stuff I'd eaten, or I just literally had no idea how much I'd snarfed down. I'm talking fast food, fries, the whole deal. It was an ugly few days :(. I don't know why I couldn't stop. It was just a compulsion that felt uncontrollable. So yesterday I was sitting at work, chatting with my boss. The whole office is pretty health conscious, and my Whataburger cup was just sitting on my desk, glaring at me, admitting my guilt. It's just time to stop the madness. I went for my first run in like, 10 days yesterday. … [Read more...]

Weigh In Wednesday Week 35: Can’t Outrun a Cruddy Diet

Freckleberry Fit

Welp. I didn't want this to happen, but I saw it coming. I hit the 50 pound milestone last week. Hooray! But then this week, I kind of let loose a little when it came to eating. I still went balls to the wall with running and exercise, but I also did things like eat at Five Guys Burgers and Fries. It was super delicious, and super bad for me, haha! I had a small burger (aka A NORMAL SIZED BURGER) and Andrew and I split a regular fry. It was 21 points plus for what I ate! When I only get 26 points in a day, that's kiiiind of detrimental! That was my only meal that was *really* bad, so I thought I might be okay. But then I remembered all of my little drive by snacking that I've done. Ritz Baked Chips, anyone? I am pretty sure I kept within my weekly points, but I never usually eat into those. I kept myself active, though! Every single day, I did something to earn back some activity points. I even took all three kids hiking solo! We had such a great time. (by the way...do you … [Read more...]

Wednesday Weigh In Week 34: The elusive fifty.

Lose 50 Pounds

I want so badly to even remember what has happened this week. But I can't, and that's because I just made my newest side by side photo collage to celebrate... Hells YES I've lost 50 pounds! I can't believe it sometimes. It takes looking at before and after (during) photos of myself to help me realize just how far I've come. In celebration of hitting one of my biggest goals, I've got an updated photo for you guys! This just blows my dang mind, you guys. I know you have seen me in this same workout outfit a bazillion times (I really need some new tech shirts!), but I wanted to show you the difference in my body as much as possible. And is anyone else checking out my butt? 'Cause I am. Thank you, squats! I'll be adding a bazillion more of those to my workout agenda, thankyouverymuch. Stuff that's going on: I am dreading the heat of the summer, so I'm trying to get my running in as much as possible. In case you missed my last post, I'm an Omron Running Challenge Ambassador! So … [Read more...]

I’m an #iheartOmron Running Challenge Ambassador Through #Mamavation! @OmronFitness

Omron Strapless Heart Rate Monitor | HR-500U

That's a lot of hashtags and @s isn't it?! It's super fancy pants, and super amazing, so it's worth it! So a while back I sauntered over to Mamavation to take a peek at what they had coming up. I always see the #mamavation hashtag all over my Twitter stream, so I finally decided to see what was up! I'm so glad I did, because while I was there I applied to be a part of a running ambassadorship with Omron Fitness. And guess what? They picked me! (They like me! They really like me!) So I received a strapless heart rate monitor from Omron Fitness (omg!), and the folks over at Mamavation have hooked us all up with a training plan that we can follow. We'll be kicking our butts for the next three weeks, and on March 30, all 25 of us will run a 5K! Do the challenge with me! Want to get in on the action? You can print your own schedule and follow along with me and the rest of the girls! I just finished day 2 tonight, and holy. plank. I got deliciously sweaty and had a great … [Read more...]

Weigh In Wednesday Week 33: I am SO. TIRED.

30 Day Shred Day 6

Tired doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. Man! Last night I slept like a rock. I fell asleep at like, 9:00, and I swear to you I didn't move a muscle until my alarm went off at 6:45. I probably could've slept for hours past that, even. Best sleep ever. On Monday the 25th,  I decided to whip out the 30 Day Shred and do it. I hadn't done it in AGES -- like, back when I was 200+ pounds. Holy crap it's amazing how much easier it is when you're not obese, haha! It's still not easy, but I don't feel like I'm going to die at the end of it at least. This was on day 6. The last day I did it was on Sunday, day 7. It was actually pretty cool to feel the soreness shift in my legs as the week went on, ha! I'm still focusing on running (it's my goal to run a half by the end of the year -- I can totally do it!), but I also want to get STRONG. I want to be toned, and I want to be able to kick someones ass if I had to ;). So I'm starting small, but eventually want to lift, and lift heavy. … [Read more...]

Super Easy Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos with Rice #Recipe

Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos

This week has been absolutely jam packed with every single thing imaginable. I started a new job, the kids started with a nanny, and life has just been crazy. Dinner rolled around tonight and I didn't have a plan. Surprise. Here's what I had in my pantry and fridge: That can make tacos, right? Right. Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos Makes 5 tacos 1 chicken breast 1/4 cup fresh cilantro Minute Ready-to-Serve Brown Rice White corn tortillas Fresh lime juice Slice your chicken breast into strips width wise, but don't go all the way through. Squirt lime juice all over chicken and into cuts. I used a George Foreman grill to grill the chicken breast. While your chicken breast is cooking, snag a Minute Ready-to-Serve single serve cup. You don't have to add water or anything -- just pop it into the microwave for 60 seconds! Once the chicken is finished grilling, fork-shred into a tortilla that you've spooned some rice into. Top with fresh cilantro and lime juice. … [Read more...]
