I’m running in the Skirt Chaser 5k in Tempe! Join me!

Skirt Chaser 5K Tempe

Can I tell y’all what I’m super pumped about? I am so excited for a fun, themed run. My past two races have been serious, focused, and challenging 13.1 miles. This Saturday, I’m running in the Skirt Chaser 5k in Tempe! It’s my second year running in the Skirt Chaser 5k, and I’m so thrilled to be back! It’s very unique in that there are two start times, based on gender. Following the rules of etiquette, ladies start first, and then the men follow three minutes later – hence the name “Skirt Chaser”. The race is hosted by Skirt Sports (which I LOVE, by the way – super huge fan of their stuff!), and it’s so neat to see a ton of ladies kicking asphalt in running skirts! Here I am at last year’s Skirt Chaser (whoa, blonde hair flashback!): The best part, to me, is that with an upgraded registration, you score a Skirt Sports running skirt! With the dreadfully hot summer up ahead, my running leggings are going to be retired, and I’m going to get a lot … [Read more...]

Weigh in Wednesday: Losing Weight Twice Sucks + I’m Running 13.1 Miles on Sunday!

Mean Girls Workout Tank

Just a little PSA for any of you who are thinking about slacking off and letting yourself go. When you gain back weight that you've already busted your ass to lose, the process is twice as hard, twice as emotionally trying, and twice as sucky. With that out of the way, I think I can say that I've had an okay week! On Monday, my office started a weight loss challenge, and I signed up. There's some stiff competition, and I might not have a chance at winning, but I'm doing my damnedest to hold my own. I've only had a handful of Diet Dr. Peppers this week, too! I've been twiddling my thumbs with excitement and nerves (okay mostly nerves), because this Sunday is the PF Changs Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon! My second half! Again, I always feel like I could have trained better, and I know I could have, so I'm apprehensive about how I will do during this race. I'm going to stick with the 3:00 pace setter and hope for the best. I ran on Sunday, and kept a good pace to put me at the finish … [Read more...]

Weigh in Wednesday: 2014 Edition

Freckleberry Fit

HAPPY NEW YEAR, FRECKLEBERRIES! I would love to tell you that I got gussied up and danced the night away, but I'm a fuddy duddy who enjoyed her evening on the couch with her husband and kids watching a Cops marathon. (Funny tidbit: Micah woke up in the middle of the night and asked me if all the bad guys got arrested. Ha!) I hope you guys had a great New Year's Eve. Is anyone else feeling really excited about the fresh start? I am big on charting, tracking, and following analytics and stuff, so something about a new year with no data is encouraging to me. I don't have any bad juju going into this year when it comes to my weight, so I'm going to try and bottle that up and use it! Time to be transparent. I've found that the only way to keep myself accountable is to blog about my food, exercise, and current weight. I kicked a lot of ass on Nutrisystem, and I think it was due in part to the fact that I was required by contract to blog weekly. Knowing that I had to write about my week … [Read more...]

That Time I Ran A Half Marathon And Didn’t Die

So proud of myself!

Well. I'm three days past race day, and I am slowly starting to not limp a little when I get out of my office chair at work, so I think it's time I recap my run, eh? On Friday night, my sister, Kelsey, flew in to the Phoenix airport from San Antonio to run the race with me. We wanted to both run our first half marathon together, so she flew out here for the occasion. She's been a runner for some time, and has always been athletic (soccer, volleyball, kickball...the list goes on! She was playing sports while I did musical theatre growing up!), but she has been having really weird issues with her shins and calves lately. She's fallen three or four times while running, and described the falls by saying "my legs just quit working." So while she felt prepared, she was nervous. I, however, felt under prepared and nervous. I knew that I could finish -- I didn't doubt my physical ability to travel 13.1 miles, but I knew that I wouldn't be finishing at an impressive time. Kels and I … [Read more...]

T-Minus ONE MONTH Until Half Marathon

Freckleberry Fit

You guys. Look what popped up on my phone yesterday. That ain't no joke, folks. My sister has purchased her plane tickets (she lives in Texas and is coming to Arizona to run it with me!), and I've started to design my race day shirt. THIS. RACE. IS. HAPPENING! ...but is the training happening? Yes. and no. But yes. So while I am totally not going to sit here and tell y'all that I've stuck to my training plan to the T, I've done a decent job of prepping. I'm a little (ok a lot) nervous about it, but I'm mostly confident that I'll be able to do it. On Sunday, I went out for a long run. It was GORGEOUS outside, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to run outside! I've been treadmilling it, mostly, because of the kids. I can't very well just leave them sleeping while I run around my town, can I? But Andrew was home, and I put on my running clothes really quickly and hollered "I'm going for a run!" before he could get a word in edgewise :). I told myself that I was … [Read more...]

Weigh In Wednesday: The One Where I Change My Mindset

I didn't post last week, and it's no wonder -- I've been having a serious internal struggle about weight loss for a while now. Shall we get into the whole story? The kids are tuned into Lilo and Stitch, so I'll get while the gettin's good. Where it all began I went on my first diet at 13 years of age. My mom and I signed up for some weight loss clinic that was reminiscent of a Jenny Craig type of situation. We would eat our own food, supplement with their drinks, shakes, and bars, and visit the clinic weekly to weigh in and pee in a cup. I can't remember how much weight I lost on this program, but it's my first vivid memory of dieting. I remember exactly what I would eat -- half of a chicken breast, small salad, saltine crackers, and a little bit of fruit. Pretty much every meal looked like that, so I'm going to assume that I was on a 1,200 calorie diet. I kept the weight off for a few years, and even lost a little bit more once I entered high school. In high school, I toyed with … [Read more...]

I finally bought some new kicks! #ReebokMom #sponsored

Reebok Mom

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Reebok. I received a Famous Footwear gift card to purchase a pair of Reebok shoes to facilitate my review and to thank me for participating. Way back when I was at my starting weight, I spent every last penny of an Amazon gift card on workout clothes --- and that included the cheapest pair of running shoes I could find. I obviously didn't even try them on; I just purchased the size I presumed I would need. It wasn't all bad, really. Those $20 shoes (on super-duper clearance) carried me many, many miles. But now that I'm in the process of training for my first half marathon, it's time to upgrade. I headed to my local Famous Footwear store to check out the goods. I wanted to buy a fun pair of shoes, but obviously, fit and comfort were top priority. I need to take care of my feet! I'd never owned a pair of Reebok shoes before, but I'd heard good things. Emma came with me on the shopping trip, and she as the … [Read more...]

Weigh In Wednesday Week 39: I’m baaaack! and I have NEWS!

Women's Running Half Marathon Scottsdale

I know you couldn't bear for me to be away for yet another week, right? ;) Well! I took a little breather, and am doing my best to make sure that I have enough hours in the day to work, be with my family, be a mom and wife, and also actually have time to WORK OUT so I can then BLOG about it! People tell me all the time, "I don't know how you do it!" Neither do I, folks. Neither. do. I. I've enjoyed being able to just live for the past three weeks, and though I was still around and posting for previous obligations, it was good to fall asleep when I wanted to, not after I was done working. Since I can't very well fit in three week's worth of updates in one post, I'm going to just kind of throw things at you, smorgasbord style. We went to Texas! I took full advantage of the new running views and went out for a quick run. We were only there for about 36 hours (really!), so I just did a quick 2 miles. Oh, and when I say quick, I kind of mean it: Hey-oh! I know that … [Read more...]

Weigh In Wednesday Week 36: What is with the self-sabotage?!

Freckleberry Fit

Alright, dudes. This week started off really awesome. I was on track, eating well, really clean, and it was like the heavens were singing. I was pretty bummed out about the .2 pound gain, and so I was ready to buckle down and get these 12.4 pounds DONE, y'know? I was shredding, running, doing my thing. Then Sunday came. It started with Robin's Eggs. and it kept going. and going. and going. I didn't even track a lot of it because I was either so ashamed of the stuff I'd eaten, or I just literally had no idea how much I'd snarfed down. I'm talking fast food, fries, the whole deal. It was an ugly few days :(. I don't know why I couldn't stop. It was just a compulsion that felt uncontrollable. So yesterday I was sitting at work, chatting with my boss. The whole office is pretty health conscious, and my Whataburger cup was just sitting on my desk, glaring at me, admitting my guilt. It's just time to stop the madness. I went for my first run in like, 10 days yesterday. … [Read more...]

Wednesday Weigh In Week 34: The elusive fifty.

Lose 50 Pounds

I want so badly to even remember what has happened this week. But I can't, and that's because I just made my newest side by side photo collage to celebrate... Hells YES I've lost 50 pounds! I can't believe it sometimes. It takes looking at before and after (during) photos of myself to help me realize just how far I've come. In celebration of hitting one of my biggest goals, I've got an updated photo for you guys! This just blows my dang mind, you guys. I know you have seen me in this same workout outfit a bazillion times (I really need some new tech shirts!), but I wanted to show you the difference in my body as much as possible. And is anyone else checking out my butt? 'Cause I am. Thank you, squats! I'll be adding a bazillion more of those to my workout agenda, thankyouverymuch. Stuff that's going on: I am dreading the heat of the summer, so I'm trying to get my running in as much as possible. In case you missed my last post, I'm an Omron Running Challenge Ambassador! So … [Read more...]
